How do YOU carry your load?

While in Uganda, I saw so many creative ways to carry a heavy and cumbersome load.  Bedframes and bananas on bike seats, yellow plasic jugs filled with water balanced on the heads of children and adults alike.  Entire families stacked on a bicycle or motorcycle.

And it made me think… why do we see so many backpacks and briefcases here in the US, and very few objects precariously balanced on the tops of heads?  Can you imagine… the Metro… early Monday morning, with everyone jostling into position to squeeze through the doors… all with massive loads perched atop their heads.  Curious thought, huh?  And yet this method of load carrying is commonplace in places like Uganda, Nicaragua and many other areas around the world.

So, why do we each carry our loads the way that we do?  Habit?  Learned behavior?   “We’ve always done it that way?”  Mama always did it that way?  Perhaps it’s time to switch it up.  Maybe there’s a better way.  Perhaps… just perhaps…  it’s time to let go, and let God show us a little about the carrying the load.  He has a lot of practice.  Just a thought…
